The Black Gable is a contemporary residential addition to an existing eatery in Courtenay, British Columbia. The design reinterprets traditional pitched-roof architecture through a minimalist approach, combining a striking dark shingle-clad upper volume with warm natural wood siding.

Drawing inspiration from the existing eatery, the addition establishes a cohesive architectural identity while maintaining a distinct residential character. Carefully positioned windows, subtle cantilevers, and sheltered transitional spaces balance privacy, natural light, and indoor-outdoor connections.

The result is a harmonious dialogue between old and new, where familiar architectural forms are reimagined through contemporary materials and thoughtful detailing.
